STANDARD OPTION ITINERARY
Day 1 US
Depart the US on your flight to Bucharest, Romania.
Day 2 - Bucharest: H. Ramada Parc 4 * or similar
Arrival at Bucharest airport, reception of the guide and transfer to the hotel.Dinner and overnight in Bucharest.
Day 3 Bucharest - Sibiu - Bazna: Casa Bazna 3 * or similar
Drive along the Olt valley, through the Red Tower Pass where once the border between Transylvania and Valachia. Stop at the monastery of Cozia, the oldest monastery in Romania. In the afternoon, arrival in Sibiu / Hermannstadt, in the city which was the cultural capital of Europe in 2007. During a city tour through in the old town center you will see among other things: The Big and Small Ring, the Lies Bridge and the Evangelical Cathedral. Continue to Bazna.
Day 4 -Bazna - Sighisoara - Bazna: Casa Bazna 3 * or similar
Today is under the sign of the culture of the Transylvanian Saxons. The church castles of Transylvania are among the best-known historical monuments of the Transylvanian Saxons, and since they have been better preserved than in other parts of Europe, they are valuable monuments of the general construction of the fortified churches.
After breakfast, we will travel to Biertan (Birthälm), where we will visit the largest of the fortified church. Here was until 19JH. Also the residence of the evangelical bishops for Transylvania. On our visit list, you will soon find Sighisoara (Schässburg). Sighisoara is the most beautiful and best preserved medieval building in the rural Gothic Renaissance and Baroque style in this part of Europe. The high density of the architectural monuments, the public buildings, the fortified walls, the towers and the dwellings that together form the complex give the castle the view of a unique, well-arranged building complex of invaluable historical value. The church, the Dracula's birthplace and the church of the former the monasterys church can be visited here. In the afternoon return to Bazna. Afterwards ride with the horse cart from Bazna to the church in Boian.
Day 5 - Bazna - Campulung: H. Sandru 3 * or similar
Today drive over the Tihuta Pass from Bukowina into Transylvania. Short stop in Bistrita to admire the church with the largest tower of Romania. Continue through TarguMures, where you can see the Orthodox Cathedral and the Cultural Palace. In the afternoon visit to the monastery Moldovita.
Day 6 - Campulung - Predeal: H. Piemonte 4 * or similar
In the morning visit to the monastery Voronet. Drive through the breathtaking BicazCanyon, along the Red Lake. The Bicaz Canyon is a gorge, about 5 km long, which runs through the Eastern Carpathians. Near the pass was created in 1838 by a mountain dive, the river Red sea. (LaculRosu) A whole wooded slope had slipped into the water at the time, and today the tree trunks still protrude from the water. Then continue through the eastern part of Transylvania. In the late afternoon, you will arrive in Predeal.
Day 7 - Predeal - Harman - Brasov - Predeal: H. Piemonte 4 or similar
In the morning you will meet Kronstadt / Brasov. The city was founded in the 13th century by the Knights of the Teutonic Order and for centuries it was an economic and intellectual center of the seven-burghese Saxons, which represented a majority of the population until the 19th century. The Black Church with its beech wood organ, the medieval city wall around the historic old town with stylish late medieval houses, the town hall square, the unique the Rope Street, the cathedral gate and the small, hidden Orthodox church from the Center. Visit of the fortified church from Harman. In addition to religious practice, this was also used by the local village or local residents as a retreat and defense building. Then return to Predeal.
Day 8 - Predeal - Bran - Sinaia - Bucharest: H. Ramada Parc 4 * or similar
In the morning drive to Bran (Dracula Castle). It was built in the 14th century and served the inhabitants of nearby Brasov as part of its protective belt against the Ottomans. The romantic castle, in the inter-war residence of the Romanian Queen Maria, is now a museum. Visit of Peles Castle, the summer residence of the royal family. In 1866, the first king of the Hohenzollern family came to Romania and decided to build a castle in Sinaia on the banks of the Peles brook in the German Renaissance, so that it would remind him of his home country. In the late afternoon arrival in Bucharest.
In the afternoon, you will have a city tour in the Romanian capital, Bucharest. Visit the patriarchal church, the seat of the Romanian Orthodox Patriarch, the village museum with its houses from all parts of Romania, and stop at the Palace of Parliament, the second-largest building in the world after the Pentagon. The wide boulevards of Bucharest, monuments like the triumphal arch and wide places explain why Bucharest is known as "small Paris of the East". Continue to the airport, where you will leave the Romanian tour guide.
In the evening, festive dinner with folklore program in R. "Pescarus".
Day 9 - Bucharest - US
After breakfast, return back to the airport for your flight back to the US.

Depart US for Bucharest, Romania.
Day 2 – BUCHAREST at the CROSSROAD between the ORIENT and OCCIDENT
Arrival at Bucharest airport in the afternoon. For transfer, meeting point with guide: on the right side of the exit gate. Transfer to your 4*/5* hotel and check-in. Dinner in the hotel.
Day 3- THE BYZANTIUM AND ITS SPLENDOUR: architecture, churches and traditions
BUCHAREST - CURTEA DE ARGES – SIBIU- SIBIEL (340 KM / 5 hrs)
After breakfast, departure to Curtea de Arges, the former capital of Wallachia. Visit the Episcopal Church-built by Prince Neagoe Basarab (1512-1517), where the Romanian Kings are buried. Drive along the picturesque Olt Valley to Sibiu, one of the oldest cities in Transylvania - formerly Hermannstadt - founded by the Saxon colonists. Guided walking tour of the medieval town (the Main Square, the Evangelical Church, and the Liars' Bridge etc.). Depart to Sibiel- the village which was awarded the prize “Pomme d’Or” by the Press Association FIJET. Visit the Museum of Icons. Dinner and overnight stay at guesthouses, so you could see for yourself the villagers’ life, traditions and gastronomic savour.
Day 4 - UNESCO HERITAGE, MEDIEVAL TREASURES: SIBIEL – SIGHISOARA – TARGU MURES – BISTRITA (280 KM / 4 hrs)
Morning departure to Sighisoara, birthplace of Vlad the Impaler. En route, visit the fortified Church at Biertan, one of the most beautiful buildings in Romania, in Gothic and Renaissance style. We arrive at Sighisoara and discover the medieval Citadel included in UNESCO World Heritage: the Clock Tower, the Church on the Hill, the roofed stairways etc. Lunch at the “House of Dracula” restaurant. Continue to Targu Mures, walking tour through the elegant city centre, well known for its architecture: the Palace of Culture, the Orthodox Churches, and the Teleki-Bolyai Library. Drive on to Bistrita and one of the 7 medieval cities in Transylvania and the place where Jonathan Harker, Bram Stoker’s hero spent the night before arriving at Dracula’s Castle. Dinner and overnight stay in a 3* centrally located hotel. After dinner, optional night walking tour.
Day 5 - GOOD DAY, SWEET BUCOVINA! BISTRITA–CAMPULUNG MOLDOVENESC – MOLDOVITA – GURA HIMORULUI (245km/4hrs)
Departure to Bucovina –the “upper land” with the unique painted monasteries, belonging to the UNESCO World Heritage. After crossing the land of Dracula, wonderfully depicted in Bram Stocker’s novel “Dracula”, we arrive at Campulung Moldovenesc and visit the Wooden Art Museum, depicting the universe of peasant life and the evolution of wood processing along the centuries in Bucovina. Lunch in a local restaurant. In the afternoon, visit the Moldovita Monastery – a symphony in purple red, a medieval art treasure. We continue with visit to Lucia CONDREA’s workshop, the famous creator of painted eggs, as well as the village of Vatra Moldovitei, with its traditional small houses, old steam train named “Mocanita” and unspoiled nature. Dinner including welcome drink named ‘afinata’ (alcoholic drink made of blueberry), forest mushrooms (organic), as well as the local dessert “papanasi”.
Day 6 - MOLDAVIA and ITS SPLENDOUR
GURA HUMORULUI – VORONET –LACU ROSU /MIERCUREA CIUC (245 km/4 hrs)
We visit the jewels of Bucovina: Voronet Monastery represents a genuine touristic attraction, both for Romanian and foreign visitors. It is also called “the Sistine Chapel of the East”.
We continue driving through the Moldavian villages, with their typical houses. We arrive at the Village of Tarpesti – the home of the delightful “Neculai Popa” Museum, unique in the world, where colourful masks and folk costumes are displayed; time to photograph. Afterwards, we visit the monasteries Varatec and Agapia. Lunch will be served at a local guesthouse. In the afternoon, we cross the fabulous Bicaz Gorges on foot, if the weather is fine. Arrive at Lacu Rosu (the Red Lake) resort; dinner – taste the main typical course ‘gulas’. Dinner and overnight at Lacu Rosu/Miercurea Ciuc- Fenyo Hotel.
Day 7 - MEDIEVAL BRASOV - the SAXON GEM of TRANSYLVANIA
LACU ROSU – PREJMER – BRAN – BRASOV (355 KM /6 hrs)
Departure to Brasov, driving through the Eastern Carpathians. Stop-over at Prejmer for visit to the fortified church, also included in the UNESCO World Heritage. Lunch in a local restaurant. Drive on to Bran and visit to the famous medieval castle (the "Dracula's" Castle) built as a fortress for the citizens of Brasov in 1377, as a defence to the city. Prince Vlad used the castle as general headquarters during his incursions in Transylvania. In 1922, Queen Mary of Romania changed the castle into a Royal residence, the most famous castle in Romania. For many years, it was an interesting medieval art museum. Arrival at Brasov, former Kronstadt, founded by the Saxon colonists, as the South gate of Transylvania. Walking tour through the old town centre, including the Black Church – the biggest Gothic church between Istanbul and Vienna; the Council Square, the Hirscher House/16th century, the baroque style buildings from the Austro-Hungarian time and the Ekaterina Gate of the Old Citadel. It is also worth mentioning one of the oldest Orthodox Churches in Transylvania, Saint Nicholas Church, where you can admire the beautiful frescoes of the chapel. Dinner in a typical restaurant, overnight stay in Brasov at a 3* hotel or in Poiana Brasov at a 4*.
Day 8: THE ROYAL WAY
BRASOV – SINAIA – BUCHAREST (180MKM / 3 HRS)
In the morning, we cross the Carpathians towards Sinaia, one of the most beautiful mountain resorts, also called „The Pearl of the Carpathians”. Visit the fabulous Peles Castle, an exquisite piece of architecture and one of the most spectacular castles in Europe, with its arms and armoury collection, unique for its richness and diversity. The Castle served as the summer residence of the Romanian Royal family. Continue to Bucharest. Lunch in a local restaurant. Panoramic tour of Bucharest, the city of contrasts between old and modernity, with large boulevards and magnificent buildings (the Romanian Athenaeum, the Patriarchal Church; visit the House of Parliament, built between 1984 and 1989, the largest building in Europe and the second one in the world after the Pentagon, with its unique marble decorations and wooden sculptures made of rare essence and bronze). Check-in at a 4*/5* hotel in Bucharest. Walking tour in the Old City centre. Farewell dinner in a lovely brassiere, keeping immortal the old spirit of Bucharest at the end of the century.
Day 9 - BUCHAREST/USA
After breakfast, time at leisure depending on your departure flight. Transfer to the airport and board your flight back to the USA.
